What is Moxibustion?
It is a Chinese Medicine Technique that involves burning one of our favourite herbs (mugwort) and warming the skin to encourage healing. There are 2 main types of moxibustion; direct and indirect.
Direct involves using a cigar-shaped stick introducing the heat to specific acupuncture points in a motion that is described as sparrow pecking.
Indirect is when a Mugwort cone is placed on top of the needle or a slice of ginger to have a more direct, concentrated effect.
As you may see in my blog post, it can help promote the circulation of blood and penetrate into the deeper layers of muscles to warm up the channels to reduce pain.
For moxibustion, you will feel a rush of warm sensation where moxa is applied. Please voice out if it is getting too hot to avoid burns, otherwise, it is generally safe and blister-free.
