A common question in our treatment sessions is how old is cosmetic acupuncture?
These protocols are nothing new as they have been in development for over 5000 years. However, in recent years they have become more sophisticated than ever as the population's desire for natural and safe anti-aging treatments has increased.

At our clinic, we use ultra-thin facial needles that are 12 times thinner than hypodermic needles. These special needles are strong enough to stimulate collagen and elastin production for a facial tightening effect while minimizing discomfort.

Ultra-Fine needles (made especially for the face) are inserted to promote the flow of qi, blood and nutrients for your facial cells. This helps to moisturize the face at a deeper cellular level compared to moisturizer. Acupuncture helps increase the oxygen supply to cells and allows cells to store more water. Think of it as watering a plant, when the roots are dried out, the plant is unable to absorb water. In order to combat this, it is important to target the root to build a healthy, moisturised and plump skin.

2. Collagen production
The needle's "microtrauma" promotes fibroblasts (key cells that help repair tissue and collagen synthesis) to aid in the production of elastin and collagen, which are important in achieving plump and firm skin. This process helps reduce and create finer lines and wrinkles skin elasticity.

3. Tighten and relax facial muscles
Tight facial muscles can lead to wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of aging. other weak facial muscles can lead to sagging, sagging, and sagging facial features. Acupuncture can also target muscle levels to strengthen or relax facial muscles.

Does it hurt?


Cosmetic acupuncture needles are as thin as 0.10 mm, and some are thinner than a strand of hair. Most patients feel nothing at all, but it is not uncommon to feel a small, temporary prick when the needle first enters the skin. This sensation only lasts for a split second and the remainder of the treatment is essentially pain and discomfort free. Many patients are amazed at how relaxing the sessions feel. The needles used are high-quality facial needles made in Japan with an innovative tip that pushes out skin molecules instead of cutting the skin, resulting in smooth, painless insertion.

Are there any side effects of Cosmetic Acupuncture?

There are rarely side effects from cosmetic acupuncture treatments as it is a very gentle and natural type of cosmetic treatment. This means you can go about your day normally after a session of cosmetic acupuncture.

Light flushing of the face and redness are the most typical effects post-treatment. This is brought on by the increase of blood flow to the face.

On rare occasions, temporary and minor bruising may develop where the needles are inserted. This typically is painless and resolves after a few days.
To help reduce the duration of the bruise, arnica cream is a good option to apply to the skin.

Are there any precautions or contraindications I should be aware of?  

Cosmetic acupuncture is generally considered to be safe, but there are a few precautions to keep in mind:

  • Intense headaches and Migraines

  • Pregnancy 

  • Blood thinners and blood movers
    This can increase your risk of bruising with treatment. It may not be suitable if you take these regularly.  

  • Cold sores
    Avoid treatment if you’re currently suffering from a cold sore or herpes on the face. 

  • Laser or Peel
    Laser or peel may make the skin more sensitive. Cosmetic acupuncture can be used in conjunction with laser/peel, but it is recommended to have cosmetic acupuncture before the laser/peel.
